Big 12 College Basketball Showdown: Baylor Bears at Kansas Jayhawks

The Baylor Bears look for redemption Wednesday, February 8, 2012, when they host the Kansas Jayhawks at the Ferrell Center in Waco, TX. Baylor (21-1) is 12-1 at home and tied with Kansas (18-5) for second place in the Big Xll standings at 8-2. Recall that the Bears were blasted by the Jayhawks 92-74 on January 16th; suffering their first loss of the season.

In conference play, the Bears lead the league in scoring at 75 ppg with Kansas #2 at 74 ppg. The Jayhawks have the league’s no. 1 scoring defense allowing just 63 ppp and #1 FG defense at 39%. Both teams hit 48-49% of their FG attempts, and Baylor’s 3-point and free throw shooting are better than the Jayhawks with overall rebounding margin and blocked shots very even and among the best in the league.

Baylor is balanced and has a collection of big men that are the best in college basketball. Junior guard Pierre Jackson leads the league in assists and is #2 in steals while sophomore Perry Jones lll and freshman Quincy Miller join senior Quincy Acy along the Bears strong front line to give the Bears an edge inside. Kansas counters with their own athletic playmakers with an experienced backcourt of Tyshawn Taylor and Travis Releford and strong scorer and the league’s top rebounder Thomas Robinson inside.

Kansas gas lost their last two road games at Iowa State and Missouri, and now run into the ornery and motivated Bears. Baylor coach Scott Drew is just 1-9 against Kansas, but the Bears will bring their best for redemption with their most talented team and have a solid shot to knock off the Jayhawks.
